Instead of Friday Forum this week, there will be an exciting joint seminar between SNU GEC and the Center for International Development and Cooperation(CIDC), Korean Women’s Development Institute(KWDI). The seminar preparation team would like to invite all of you to come to learn and network.



[SNU GEC– KWDI CIDC Joint Seminar]


Title: Leaving No one Behind: Encountering Gender and Education in International Development


Date: November 24, 2017

Time: 10 am -12. 30 noon

Venue: Room 230, Asia Center (Bldg 101) Seoul National University

Host: Center for International Development and Cooperation(CIDC), Korean Women’s Development Institute(KWDI) and Global Education Cooperation Major(GEC) Seoul National University(SNU)

Supported by: Asia Center, Seoul National University

In terms of the purpose of seminar, this seminar is organized as a part of continuous talks between the Center for International Development and Cooperation(CIDC), Korean Women’s Development Institute(KWDI) and Global Education Cooperation Major(GEC) Seoul National University(SNU) to bridge women’s studies and education for brainstorming future collaborative academic and policy works. The encounter is not yet developed fully academic but hope to develop a few sets of academic research in a few years by hosting several joint seminars and raise the issues among colleagues and students.


In terms of format, the seminar starts NOT from “the experts”, but from the graduate students who are currently participating course called, . A PhD Candidate, Yoo Jin Chun will lead the first session.

In terms of pedagogy, the seminar is based on the philosophy of andragogy, which emphasizes humanistic concept of self-directed and autonomous adult learners as well as teachers as facilitators of learning. In this approach, the graduate students will share the stories of gendered experiences of schooling and learning and then students will have opportunities to meet the like-minded professors and experts who are teaching, researching and supervising in the topics in the future.
